Mammoplasty, more commonly known as breast reduction, is a
procedure that removes excess breast tissue and skin, making
your breasts more proportional to the rest of your body. The
areola (pigmented skin surrounding your nipple) may be reduced
and repositioned as well. Women whose breasts are large in
comparison to their body frame can experience physical and
emotional pain. These symptoms may include shoulder, neck,
and back pain; heavy, sagging breast with very low nipples
and areolas; breasts that are too large in proportion to your
body frame; skin irritation beneath your breasts; feelings
of self-consciousness about the size of your breasts; clothing
that does not properly fit the rest of your body and restriction
of physical activity due to the size and weight of your breasts.
During a breast reduction, once the excess tissue is removed,
the remaining tissue along with the nipple-areola complex
will be repositioned to best suit your body type. Dr. Bittar
will take into consideration your body frame and what size
you want your breasts to be. You and Dr. Bittar will discuss
in detail your procedure and how the results you want will
be accomplished. Always remember to ask Dr. Bittar and his
staff and questions you may have.
